Wabanaki Alliance Tribal Coalition
The Wabanaki Alliance was formed in 2020 by the Mi’kmaq Nation, Houlton Band of Maliseet Indians, Passamaquoddy Tribe, and Penobscot Nation to advocate for tribal sovereignty—the inherent right of tribes to govern themselves. Unlike over 500 other federally recognized tribes in the U.S., Wabanaki Nations in Maine are denied many of those rights due to outdated state and federal laws. The Alliance works to change that through education, public engagement, and legislative advocacy. More than 300 businesses and organizations have joined the Tribal Coalition to support justice, fairness, and self-determination for Wabanaki people.
